Dr. James Rubano, M.D., MBA, was born and raised in Carbondale, Pa where he graduated salutatorian from Sacred Heart High School. He then attended Villanova University where he graduated with a 3.99 GPA in Biology and first in his class. While at Villanova, he received numerous scholarships and awards including being named to Phi Beta Kappa during his junior year which is awarded to less than 2% of a class.  After college, Dr Rubano obtained his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine where he graduated in the top 3% with Alpha Omega Alpha induction during his third year.

Upon completion of medical school, Dr. Rubano entered an orthopaedic surgical residency at Duke University Medical Center. On more than one occasion during residency, Dr Rubano scored in the 99th percentile on the yearly the Orthopaedic In-Training Examination (OITE). Following residency, he accepted the prestigious Otto E. Aufranc Fellowship in hip and knee replacement surgery at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, MA.  During fellowship, he received extensive training in both primary and complex/revision joint replacement surgery.

Dr. Rubano is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery, specializing in hip and knee replacements. He currently performs over 700 primary joint replacements per year and is the highest volume Joint Replacement Surgeon in Delaware. A significant percentage of his practice is referrals for complex/revision joint replacements. He is on staff at Christiana Care Health System. Currently he performs his surgeries at the Center for Advanced Joint Replacement at Wilmington Hospital and same-day surgeries at Delaware Outpatient Center for Surgery.

Dr. Rubano believes in the importance of continuing education. He is a member of the Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ABOS). He also holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Villanova Univeristy School of Business.

Dr. Rubano lives in Wilmington with his wife, 3 children, and 2 dogs. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, attending sporting events (especially Villanova Basketball), going to the beach, and golfing.
