John William Gillespie, III, MD

Dr. John W. Gillespie III was born in Newark, DE and raised in Hockessin, DE. He is married with two beautiful daughters. He attended Salesianum High School and University of Delaware where he received his B.A. in Biological Sciences.

Dr. Gillespie completed the prestigious General Surgery residency at Christiana Care Hospital in Delaware and obtained his Board Certification. It was during his general surgery training that his dream of becoming a Plastic Surgeon was born. A grandmother with breast cancer led the desire to pursue breast cancer reconstruction. Dr. Gillespie was selected for a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at renowned Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, becoming a double Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. It was during his training that he became a leader in breast cancer reconstruction, both implant-based and autologous (“patients’ own”) tissue reconstruction. He also is highly trained in autologous microvascular free-flap reconstruction, mainly focusing on breast cancer reconstruction. During this time, Dr. Gillespie has published papers on periorbital reconstruction and abdominal wall reconstruction, as well as giving grand rounds and as an invited speaker on subjects such as abdominal wall reconstruction and post-Bariatric surgery body contouring.

He is a member of numerous medical societies, including the American College of Surgeons, Philadelphia Academy of Surgery, Robert H. Ivy Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society of Plastic Surgery, The American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons, Pennsylvania and Delaware Medical Societies, and many more.

Dr. Gillespie has grown a substantial aesthetic background, including facelifts, eyelid surgery, neck lifts, breast augmentation, mommy makeovers and liposuction. He prides himself on his post-Bariatric body contouring procedures such as breast lifts/reductions, tummy tucks, whole body lifts, arm and thigh lifts. He is also the leading plastic surgeon in the Delaware area offering the Brazilian Butt Lift. Dr. Gillespie is also one of the few plastic surgeons in the entire United States offering treatment for a rare but real illness referred to Breast Implant Illness Syndrome.

Dr. Gillespie holds medical licenses in PA and DE and has offices in Wilmington and Dover, DE and is the medical director at two separate spas in Delaware, focusing on botox and dermal fillers, skin care and facial rejuvenation.
